The man who made the biggest film of all time is doing the prequel on a smaller scale- in novel form. Avatar producer Jon Landau recently told MTV that Cameron is writing a prequel novel that may hit store shelves by the end of the year. "It would be something that would lead up to telling the story of the movie, but it would go into much more depth about all the stories that we didn't have time to deal with — like the schoolhouse and Sigourney [Weaver's character] teaching at the schoolhouse; Jake on Earth and his backstory and how he came here; [the death of] Tommy, Jake's brother; and Colonel Quaritch, how he ended up there and all that," Landau says. "There might be opportunities in publishing to tell some of the backstory, tell some of the Earth war stories, what went on in Jake's life before the movie. It would seem that most Predator fans (myself included) hold the original movie in higher esteem than any other form of Predator story. This could be due to the 'feel' of the movie - the way the commandos interact with each other so realistically, and the way that each character is crafted that makes us actually care about them. (This is in direct contrast to Predator 2, where there wasn't anywhere near as much time spent 'getting to know' each character.) Given a decent character-driven story, who would feature in the cast? Well, we die-hard fans would love to see ol' Arnie reprise his role of Dutch, but it seems a bit unlikely since he's still 'The Governator' of California. Another logical choice would be Danny Glover, due to his association with Predator 2, but it's doubtful he'd return to a heavy action role these days.
